Green Oak Solutions is a newly established business which develops software products for use by recycling companies, especially those involved in the recycling of electrical equipment.
The demand for Green Oak's products and services is being stimulated by European legislation under the WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) Directive which has set new standards to enforce a reduction in the amount of electrical waste. Currently more than 90% of waste covered by the WEEE directive ends up in landfill, incineration or is shredded. The new legislation aims to significantly increase the recycling and re-use of these products.
In September 2004, we offered RSA of £250k, under Aid for Job Creation, to help Green Oak develop further a suite of software products for all sectors of the recycling industry. This will allow companies to track and report on the disposal of their electronic waste and will assist Government agencies to assess whether targets are being met. Overall, Green Oak expects to create 30 new jobs as a result of the project.
