"Inchinnan will help us to remain internationally competitive for years to come and our continued investment in Scotland reaffirms the company's commitment to the high-level skills of our Scottish workforce." Mike Lloyd, Gas Turbine Operations, Rolls-Royce plc.
In June 2002, Rolls-Royce announced that Inchinnan in Renfrewshire was its preferred location for a new state of the art manufacturing facility to produce compressor blades for aero engines. The new, lean manufacturing operation replaced the company's Hillington plant and safeguarded some 1,000 jobs, confirming Rolls-Royce's long term commitment to Scotland.
Against strong competition from the Czech Republic and working closely with Scottish Development International, RSA played a key role in securing this investment for Scotland. We made an offer of £15 million towards this important project, which involved capital expenditure of around £44 million and the construction and leaseback of the new facility itself.
The project was successfully implemented by April 2006, allowing the business and employees to subsequently reap the reward of this major investment.
