RSA has an important contribution to make to the Executive's green jobs strategy.

Over recent years, the grant scheme has assisted a number of recycling projects, working closely with colleagues in the Scottish Government Environment and Rural Affairs Department to identify projects that meet the scheme's criteria by adding genuine economic value to the economy.

These projects range from clinical waste to tyre and plastics recycling. One of the largest in this sector involved an RSA offer of £1.2m to Argent Energy Ltd to help support its £8.3m investment to establish a leading edge facility to produce biodeisel from animal fats/used cooking oils.

We will continue to use the scheme to encourage the establishment and growth of eligible green projects. Link opens in new window The Energy Saving Trust and the Carbon Trust both offer energy and environmental services to businesses in Scotland regardless of location, sector or role.

All applicants for grants of more than £1m will be required to engage with the Energy Efficiency Unit with a view to exploring both the scope for improved energy efficiency and waste management, and the help that they might be able to offer to achieve these improvements.
