Research and Development

Support for R&D projects is available on a discretionary basis at:

A maximum of 35% of the eligible project costs for grants to SMEs up to £40,000
A Maximum of 25% of the eligible project costs for grants to SMEs above £40,000 and for all grants to large companies
The actual percentage offered will be at the discretion of Scottish Enterprise following their appraisal of the level of support needed
Grants above £40,000 must demonstrate a positive impact on R&D jobs in Scotland

Projects will typically be between 6 and 36 months duration.

If your application is successful you will have to enter into a formal legal contract with Scottish Enterprise and be willing, if required, to discuss the wider development of your business, as well as detailed monitoring of your R&D project and the associated financial claims.

Grants are typically paid quarterly in arrears based upon evidence of actual expenditure incurred. Grants to SMEs may involve European funding – we will tell you in any offer letter whether this is the case.
