Research & Development Projects
Support for Research and Development projects is available on a discretionary basis up to 35% of the eligible project costs. Projects must last between 6 and 36 months and the maximum grant is £600,000. Grant is normally paid quarterly in arrears and minimum project costs should be £75,000.
The development of commercially usable prototypes and pilot projects can be assisted where the prototype is necessarily the final commercial product and where it is too expensive to produce for it to be used only for demonstration and validation purposes. In such cases, any revenue generated from the prototype or pilot would require to be repaid on a pro-rate basis.
Any Small or Medium Enterprise that meets the SMART: SCOTLAND eligibility criteria may apply for a SMART: SCOTLAND Research and Development Grant, irrespective of whether they receive support under SMART: SCOTLAND for a Feasibility Study.
The flowchart below has been tailored to help you discern if you should apply for SMART: SCOTLAND or Scottish Enterprise R&D assistance.
If your project does not fit with SMART you may wish to apply for a Scottish Enterprise R&D grant : http://www.scottishbusinessgrants.gov.uk/rsa/1000.html
